Dear Kind Parents,
Our week started with a wonderful cultural field trip to the Shiele Museum where we attended a class on Early Humans that was a great follow up to the history curriculum and a wonderful connection to the books the children read and discussed in their History Literature Clubs.
We realized that the days are passing by very fast and it will soon be Thanksgiving and Winter Holidays, which means it is more than half of the 2nd Quarter passed. The students are now mostly normalized, which means they know the expectations, norms and routines and can mostly be in charge of their work and the class can run by itself (most of the time J)
Around this time of the year, we set our “Thankful Jar”. Each child writes a note saying what are they thankful for, and place in the jar. At the end of the day, we share it together and reflect.
Winter Projects:
Our Winter project theme this year is Light Festivals around the World.
As a tradition, every time on the day of Winter Village, our class have an evening Projects Presentation Party of Winter Village Projects! This is really an amazing display as each student will have his/her project set up along with their festival food and present to their guests as well as food samples tasting for the guests . They are also expected to say Hello and bye in their country’s language!
Please note that your child will need your help going to the Public library to get books, watching youtube mini videos on their topic, use an electronic device to research, print pictures, design costume, get supplies for their visual/clothing and prepare the food.
Please be aware that this is solely homework and the projects are due by Tuesday, December 12th or earlier. I will not assign any homework during December, other than Latin so that they can have enough time to work at home. We had many discussions on expectations, how they collect facts/ information and what they need to keep in mind as to they should be able to present in about 5 minutes to the whole class starting Tuesday 12th. Food is not required till December 14th during our Winter Village evening. Very important, the rubric that was sent home is basically a checking point for them. I need it back with their visual.
All project reports must be hand written, posters/visuals can be typed up. I’ll attach the rubric and requirements in this email. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Important updates:
As always, thank you very much to all of you for entrusting me with your precious ones. I truly enjoy my time with them and marvel at the fact that they are growing everyday and working hard trying to reach their goals.
Warmly,
Ms. Amira
