Dear Kind Parents,
Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving with friends and family! We are back again to the last stretch before the Winter Holidays. All students will be doing their usual work/ in-school assignments while enjoying this wonderful season with a variety of reading, lessons and research all across the curriculum. Winter Village projects should be an on going homework. The goal is for your child to enjoy learning and researching different cultures. Please encourage them and support them but not do the work for them! I have heard and felt the excitement when the children were learning about different cultures and seen how fascinated they are with the research of the Light celebrations around the World! Updates for this week: Tuesday: Fall picture make-ups and Holiday pictures. Holiday pictures can be taken siblings together or friends together! Last year’s ones were so adorable! Wednesday- Friday: Regular Montessori workcycle ( No WWW test this Thursday unless your child wants to) and looking forward to seeing you at the Checkers Game Friday evening!! * The 5th and 6th grade field trip payments are due please pay online or send cash/check to class by Friday 12/8. It's under Ms. Katie Weed's name igf you're doing an OSP payment. *Another important update starting this week is Wordly Wise assignments will start on Wednesdays instead of Mondays. This change will give the children the period of the weekend if they’d like to take their books home and work on before turning it in on Tuesday. Please keep in mind that this is a class work but sometimes some students need extra time to finish which is totally fine, as with all assignments, to take home and finish. As always, please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, comments or concerns. Warmly, Ms. Amira Dear Kind Parents,
Our week started with a wonderful cultural field trip to the Shiele Museum where we attended a class on Early Humans that was a great follow up to the history curriculum and a wonderful connection to the books the children read and discussed in their History Literature Clubs. We realized that the days are passing by very fast and it will soon be Thanksgiving and Winter Holidays, which means it is more than half of the 2nd Quarter passed. The students are now mostly normalized, which means they know the expectations, norms and routines and can mostly be in charge of their work and the class can run by itself (most of the time J) Around this time of the year, we set our “Thankful Jar”. Each child writes a note saying what are they thankful for, and place in the jar. At the end of the day, we share it together and reflect. Winter Projects: Our Winter project theme this year is Light Festivals around the World. As a tradition, every time on the day of Winter Village, our class have an evening Projects Presentation Party of Winter Village Projects! This is really an amazing display as each student will have his/her project set up along with their festival food and present to their guests as well as food samples tasting for the guests . They are also expected to say Hello and bye in their country’s language! Please note that your child will need your help going to the Public library to get books, watching youtube mini videos on their topic, use an electronic device to research, print pictures, design costume, get supplies for their visual/clothing and prepare the food. Please be aware that this is solely homework and the projects are due by Tuesday, December 12th or earlier. I will not assign any homework during December, other than Latin so that they can have enough time to work at home. We had many discussions on expectations, how they collect facts/ information and what they need to keep in mind as to they should be able to present in about 5 minutes to the whole class starting Tuesday 12th. Food is not required till December 14th during our Winter Village evening. Very important, the rubric that was sent home is basically a checking point for them. I need it back with their visual. All project reports must be hand written, posters/visuals can be typed up. I’ll attach the rubric and requirements in this email. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Important updates:
As always, thank you very much to all of you for entrusting me with your precious ones. I truly enjoy my time with them and marvel at the fact that they are growing everyday and working hard trying to reach their goals. Warmly, Ms. Amira Dear Kind parents, Hope you’re all having a great week so far! All children are working hard and making progress every day. We are working on organizing our daily work, using planners daily to keep up with our daily/weekly assignments. In Science: The children are learning all about matter and its properties, the periodic table and its elements as well as the light energy. In Math: We are learning multiplication and division of fractions, advanced numeration and decimals as well as mastering our math facts. In History: all grades are learning about the Timeline of humanities and ancient Civilizations In language: comprehension skills, parts of speech as well as sentence syntax. Writing: is all across the curriculum. Grace and Courtesy lessons: mini lessons everyday and one big lesson every other week. Practical life: Cooking Days on Thursdays and throughout the week in their daily class chores. Important updates regarding our class community: * Peace Day/ Gardening Day this Friday 10/13. Please come and join us sing “Light a candle for peace” and add to our green indoor plants. I requested each child to pick out an indoor plant to put around the classroom. We have 6 petunias and one big plant. I’d like 2 more big indoor plants! Our herb outdoor garden is flourishing- will be used in cooking days. We are in need of some new mint seedlings and lavender seedlings. *Picture Day is on 10/17 Every student will have his/her picture taken, but it is prepay for those who actually want to get a package. *On Thursday, October 19th, PRM will be learning about and celebrating Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights. Our children will have the opportunity to have a henna design made on their hand. If you are interested in that (and I must say that it's pretty popular with the kiddos), please send $3 in with your child on that day in order to pay the henna artist directly. Also we will have Akhila’s family cooking for us an Indian meal that day! And many thanks for providing the class drinking water since last year! The children are very grateful for the cold water everyday! *P/T Conferences: are in full swing! Please sign up for a time slot. My goal to meet with every family. It is a very important piece of your child education! *MTOS Payments: A friendly reminder that the last day to make payments for MTOS is next Friday, October 20. Right now, I'm showing 15 students needing to make the final payment. Also if your child has any food allergies or modification that I don’t know of let me know ASAP. *Khan Academy: Please make sure that your child joins his/her grade level class.
